At Mother-Daughter Book Club tonight we discussed The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. While we designed the ultimate dream hamster cage, we ate homemade cookies from The Flying Dutchman Bakery (chocolate chip and gingerbread)


Our special guest Bobber had something in common with Humphrey- they are both school pets.

Giller Prize Winner Announced
The Scotiabank Giller Prize is an award that goes to the author of the best Canadian novel or short story collection. The award was established in 1994 by Toronto businessman Jack Rabinovitch in honor of his late wife, literary journalist Doris Giller. The 2009 prize goes to:

Bring Your Babies to the Library
Beginning Monday, November 9, Baby Rhyme Time will be held at the Harbour View Branch from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
All babies 0- 18 months are welcome!
There is no registration required and the program is free
Program runs every Monday from November 9 to December 14.

Starting today, Cold Lake Library card holders can download free eBooks and audiobooks. The nice thing about this, is there are no late fees! To search the library, click on the icon below or the OverDrive icon in the left hand sidebar.
Lakeland 2010 Alberta Winter Games Writing Contest
Students will have a chance to express their opinions on an issue involving a particular winter sport or the Winter Games as an event. The paper will consider information and opinions from a variety of sources. It should be 500 words, typed, and double-spaced.
Categories:
Sports Poetry: Grades 1-4
Sports Article: Grades 5-8
Opinion Piece: Grades 9-12
There will be twenty-four $100.00 prizes awarded for each grade level in Cold Lake and Bonnyville. Winning entries will be published in the Lakeland Winter Games Promotional booklet.
Entries may be submitted to your school secretary, the Grand Centre Branch Library (5513B 48 Avenue), the Harbour View Branch library (1301 8 Avenue), or the Bonnyville Municipal Library (4804 49 Avenue)
The deadline for submissions is November 30, 2009.
